the guards at my gates

eyelids swollen pink

9–5 is set for the men

perfectly poised for their productivity

while our wallets wallow within the gaps

i’m at my wit’s end

what more must i do

to prove the worth i already hold true

a flash of red across my lips

bits of silk detain my hips

one… deep… breath

one last long look

before the day devours
